چکیده

Introduction A growing demand on machining high precision aspherical and free-form optics derives from the continuous development of computer-assisted calculation and simulation methods and therefore improved possibilities of integrating numerous optical functions within one and the same lens or mirror. Applications include illustration as well as sophisticated illumination optics. State-of-the-art calculation methods enable the optical designer to create a free-form shape, detouring a coherent light beam into an image consisting of a well defined distribution of bright and shady regions. Production technologies for such high quality surfaces are the current limiting factor. The diamond machining is pursuit in a number of research activities, still being constricted to nonferrous or plastic sample parts. The alternative approach is the grinding and the subsequent polishing process, accessing a wide spectrum of applicable materials [Fig. 1]. Whereas the plane polishing of flat and spherical optics is a well established technology, the ultraprecise zonal polishing for the form correction of aspheric or free-form surfaces is still not developed to the point, where it can be used in industry as an ecconomically established process. Reasons for this drawback are the lack in the detailed chemo-mechanical process-understanding to deterministically predict or even closely control the local material removal on the optical part.

Development of Ultrasonic Vibration Assisted Polishing Machine for Micro Aspheric Die and Mold

Demands are increasing for micro axis-symmetric aspherical lenses to be installed in various optical devices. The micro glass lenses are generally molded by glass press process with micro aspheric ceramic molding dies or molds made of tungsten carbide or silicon carbide. These dies and molds are mostly ground with micro diamond wheels, but require additional finishing process as the size of the...

The application of Taguchi approach to optimise the processing conditions on bonnet polishing of CoCr alloys

This paper applied the Taguchi approach to investigate the effects of polishing parameters to obtain the optimal processing conditions for CoCr alloy polishing using a multiaxis CNC controlled corrective polishing machine. The polishing medium used was 1m diamond paste with a Microcloth(polishing cloth). Surface finish parameter Sa was chosen as the criterion for process optimization. The exper...

Development of precision polishing machine based on hexapod

Increasing demand on mass production of high precision parts, has pushed the precision manufacturing industry to develop relatively low cost, reliable precision finishing processes to meet market requirements. A gap within the provision of low cost polishing processes has been identified; namely parts with a radius of curvature less than 10mm will be increasingly present in new mass produced pr...

In situ non-contact measurements of surface roughness

Surface roughness measurements are often required to validate a machining process. However, when using a 3D surface roughness measuring instruments it is usually necessary to remove the part from the machine tool between two operations, potentially introducing systematic errors. Furthermore, surface roughness measuring instruments are not suited for measuring heavy and large parts such as stamp...

Influence of shooting angle of polishing particle on surface roughness of a cobalt-chromium alloy using a centrifugal shooting type polishing machine.

The centrifugal shooting type polishing machine is a recently developed apparatus that seeks to improve the efficiency and environment of polishing removable prostheses. In an attempt to optimize the effectiveness of this apparatus, this study examined the influence of the shooting angle of polishing particle on the surface roughness of cobalt-chromium alloy casting specimens. Polishing was per...
